Alert : Voice deepfake: AI voice cloning to imitate the voice of your loved ones

Updated on 12 June 2026.

AI Voice Clone ScamScammers now use artificial intelligence to clone the voice of relatives or colleagues from short audio clips. These scams create panic to trick victims into sending money or revealing sensitive data.

AI Voice Cloning Fraud

With just a few seconds of audio, fraudsters can generate a convincing replica of someone’s voice and use it to deceive friends or family.

How It Works

The victim receives a call or voice message that sounds like a loved one in distress. Pretending an emergency (accident, fine, stolen phone…), the scammer asks for an urgent money transfer or personal data.
Warning signs: panicked tone, inconsistent story, unknown number, urgent demand.

Tips:

  • 📞 Set up a security word with your family to confirm identity.
  • 🔍 Never respond impulsively to money requests over the phone.
  • 💬 Verify through another communication channel.
  • 🚫 Avoid posting public videos or recordings of your voice.
  • 📢 Warn your friends and relatives about this type of scam.

Conclusion

Be cautious with unexpected calls, even from familiar voices. If in doubt, never transfer money and report the scam on reportfraud.ftc.gov.
