Scam Alert

In recent weeks, a new type of scam has been spreading: cybercriminals use phone calls to pose as an official or technical service, tricking you into revealing your credentials or installing malicious software. The ultimate goal: steal your sensitive data and possibly extort you.
Stay alert: here’s how to spot and avoid this scam.
Vishing is a phone scam technique combining social engineering and sometimes artificial intelligence to impersonate someone. Unlike email phishing, here the voice is the main weapon, making the approach more convincing and harder to detect.
Scammers directly call their victim pretending to be from IT support, a bank, or a government agency. They often use real data obtained through hacking or online searches to gain your trust.
They create a sense of urgency (security incident, account issue, unauthorized access) to obtain your login details, access codes, or to make you install a “remote support” tool giving them access to your files.
Signs:
– An unexpected call from “technical support” or an official agency
– A pressing or threatening tone to make you act quickly
– A request for confidential information or to install software
If you receive this type of call, stay calm and never follow the instructions without verification. Scammers rely on fear and urgency to trap you.
Report the scam at reportfraud.ftc.gov or actionfraud.police.uk and share this warning to prevent more victims.
