Alert : European Consumer Centre Identity Fraud
Updated on 26 June 2025.
Consumers are currently reporting a wave of fraudulent contacts claiming to represent the European Consumer Centre (ECC). These scams, carried out by organized fraudsters, aim to exploit users’ trust by imitating official procedures. Learn how to spot these attempts and keep your data safe.
“Fake ECC” Scam
Fraudulent phone calls or emails use the identity of the European Consumer Centre to offer help or promise fake refunds, all with the goal of obtaining payment or your personal information.
How it works
Scammers contact victims directly, pretending to be ECC representatives. They use logos or signatures resembling those of official communications and emphasize the urgency to quickly obtain a transfer or confidential information.
Warning signs: email address not ending with @ec.europa.eu or @ecb.int, unfamiliar phone number, request for immediate payment or sensitive information.
Some tips:
- 🔒 Never share personal or banking information with an unverified contact.
- 📧 Check the sender’s email address or phone number on the official ECC website.
- 🕵️♂️ If in doubt, contact the ECC via their official contact details.
- 🚫 Do not pay in response to an unexpected request, even if it sounds convincing.
- 📢 Warn those around you to help prevent further victims.
Conclusion
If you receive a suspicious message or call claiming to be from the ECC, do not respond and protect your information. Report the attempt on Action Fraud (UK) or ECC-Net and contact the ECC through official channels.
