Google, founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, quickly became much more than just a search engine. In just a few years, the company has established itself as a major digital powerhouse, transforming the way we search for information, communicate, and even consume.
Through its wide range of services and products, Google has earned the trust of billions of users worldwide. Yet, as it expands at breakneck speed and gains more influence, important questions arise about the immense power it now holds over our digital lives.
Google is the search engine that dominates the Internet! With over 90% of the global market share, it’s so powerful that it can:
Such unprecedented influence raises the question of what limits, if any, should be placed on the power of a private company in our society—especially as things seem to be getting worse lately!
Just a few years ago, Google Search was an excellent search engine, putting the interests of users first with results that genuinely served their needs. It was widely seen as a godsend—helping people quickly find reliable answers to their questions!
But things have changed! Search results are getting worse, especially for product searches: results are packed with sites that copy content, trick users, offer little value, or are overloaded with ads! And let’s not forget the sponsored ads that now take up more and more space in the search results.
All of this is costing both consumers and advertisers a lot of money, increasing financial losses for everyone—except Google!
It’s even more catastrophic for webmasters, whose work can be wiped out in an instant! Because Google is so powerful, it decides which websites are valuable—but it changes its mind all the time, with drastic updates that can upend search results overnight. A site might be considered high quality one day and mediocre the next, without any explanation! Website owners are left powerless.
A positive update gives a site owner the feeling that they have a quality site and a stable income. They might then invest fully in their business. But months later, Google can issue an update that classifies their site as poor—without warning or reason. Overnight, someone who invested time and money, and built a business and a life, suddenly loses all income, with devastating consequences for themselves and their families.
And what is Google’s advice? “Be patient. Improve your site quality. Maybe you’ll recover in the next update…”
Meanwhile, these people are left without income, their lives turned upside down—if not completely destroyed.
Unfortunately, Google’s fame and power have reached such heights that it has been “playing God” for years, shattering lives with every update—like a child pulling the wings off a fly, unaware of the consequences.
